A Beacon of Hope: Sport In Action and Partners Transforming Lives at Fountain of Hope Orphanage in Lusaka.

In a heartwarming event on the 26th of April, 2024, the Fountain of Hope Orphanage and school in Lusaka witnessed a memorable moment as a newly renovated ablution block was officially opened and commissioned. This transformation was made possible through the unwavering support of Durham University and the Adderstone Foundation in the UK, facilitated by the Volunteer Zambia project, in collaboration with Sport In Action. This partnership spanning over 10 years, including previous renovations and the construction of a basketball court, has been instrumental in the development and sustenance of the orphanage.

With over 139 boys and girls calling the orphanage home, and approximately 600 children and youth from the community receiving education, food, and training, the impact of this initiative is profound. Board member of Fountain of Hope, Mr. Goodson Matende, expressed his deepest gratitude to Sport In Action, Durham University, Adderstone Foundation, and the Volunteer Zambia project for their enduring support. He emphasized the critical importance of a functional and clean ablution block in preventing diseases and fostering a healthy environment for the children and youth at the school. His heartfelt plea for the continuation of such altruistic contributions resonated deeply with the attendees.

The official opening of the ablution block was marked by the presence Sport In Action Team, Fountain Of Hope management and board and the children who are the beneficiaries of the newly upgraded abolition block symbolising a new chapter in the orphanage’s ongoing journey towards sustainable and improved living conditions.
