SIA HOSTS FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT TO USHER IN GIRLS LEAGUE
Sport in Action recently hosted a successful football tournament in Livingstone, marking the beginning of the girls league, which is set to commence on March 29th, 2025. The tournament featured 18 girls teams from across SIA zones, showcasing the talent and enthusiasm of young female footballers.

The girls league is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at promoting female participation in football. The league will run every 2nd week of the month, with teams competing within their respective zones: Libuyu, Villa, and Busiku. This structured approach will provide a platform for young girls to develop their skills, build confidence, and forge pathways.

To ensure the success of the tournament and the upcoming league, Sport in Action equipped teams with essential sports equipment such cones, bibs, footballs, and whistles.
This investment in the girls’ football program demonstrates the organization’s commitment to empowering young women through sport.

Jenny Brandal and Sveinung Fredriksen, YSEP participants from Norway hosted by Sport In Action, expressed their excitement about the tournament’s success. “The opening tournament for the girls’ league in Livingstone was a great success! Before launching the league, we trained thirty female coaches, who then gathered local teams in their communities. The opening tournament exceeded all expectations – a total of 18 teams from the three zones we work in showed up to compete” said, Jenny.

Sport in Action is eager to continue supporting the growth and development of young female footballers. With a structured league in place, these talented athletes will have the opportunity to hone their skills, compete with peers, and inspire others to join the beautiful game.
