SPORT IN ACTION CONGRATULATES MUZALA SAMUKUNGA ON HISTORIC OLYMPIC BRONZE MEDAL VICTORY

Sport In Action (SIA) is proud to congratulate 21-year-old Muzala Samukonga on his remarkable achievement of winning the bronze medal in the 400m at the Paris 2024 Olympics. This historic win marks Zambia’s first Olympic medal since 1996 and is a significant milestone in the nation’s sporting history.

SIA Executive Director Frankson Mushindu says Muzala’s success is a testament to his extraordinary talent, dedication, and resilience, adding that he has not only made his mark on the global stage but has also inspired countless young Zambians to pursue their dreams with determination and passion.

“We want to congratulate him for putting the Zambian flag on the world map, and we are glad that as an organisation, our belief in the power of sport brought it to light on Wednesday night. Muzala’s success is a great opportunity for the country to look through on how to develop sports codes that have potential to reap us medals at regional, continental and global events,” Mushindu said.

Mushindu expressed the organization’s pride and admiration for Muzala’s achievement.

“We are incredibly proud of Muzala Samukonga for bringing home an Olympic medal after 28 years. His victory is a shining example of what can be achieved through dedication, hard work, and the power of sport. Muzala’s success is an inspiration to all young athletes in Zambia, and we are thrilled to see him reach this incredible milestone,” Mushindu said.

“This is the time for us start planning for 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games by strengthening our sports structures in schools, communities, colleges and university level by having a strengthened pathway for athlete development, we can reap a lot of medals. Through the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts, we need to formulate policies that can help us raise resources to develop sports codes through a sports fund.”

Mushindu also extended his congratulations to various stakeholders for their crucial role in nurturing and supporting Muzala’s journey to success. The collaboration and commitment within Zambia’s sporting community are vital in creating opportunities for young athletes to excel on the world stage.

“We want to thank government for the financial and moral support, the National Sports Council of Zambia, the National Olympics Committee of Zambia and Zambia Athletics for their commitment to develop elite athletes. We want to thank the coaches who we met during their preparation few days before they left for Paris. As SIA, we believe that Zambia has a lot of potential to do wonders at international events when it comes to sport and using the power of sport to bring about development.”

Mushindu further said the sport-for-development organisation dedicated to improving the quality of life through sport and recreational activities, SIA recognizes the profound impact that such achievements have on the nation.

“We appeal for funding to the Sports Council of Zambia. We can have the right qualification, right human resource but if financial and material support won’t be unveiled to NSCZ, we may not achieve our desired results so Muzala’s win is a motivation to do more to get desired results,” He concluded.
